The blog skeptics are still out there

According to 150 top-level executives surveyed by Harris Interactive, only 5% said they see corporate blogging as a communications medium. 70% doubt blogs’ lead-generating and sales skills despite evidence to the contrary. Find additional stats here. I don’t know about the rest of you (although, seeing as you’re reading this, you’re likely in agreement with myself), but I’m a big-time blog believer.

Are wikis the way?

An article yesterday on CFO examined the uses of wikis for businesses, as a way to share knowledge among employees, suppliers, and customers. The author argued that using a wiki is a much faster way to manage information than if you were using a highly structured content management software. Some software providers are now building in features that allow businesses to build their own internal wikis. Some also connect the wikis with blogging software. iUpload, one of the software providers including wikis, founder and CEO Robin Hooper stated, “For small workgroups, wikis fill the space between E-mails, which are hard to follow and manage, and formal content management tools.” Taken from the article Office Collaboration, the Wiki Way.

Just don’t blog while blitzed

Blogger-turned consultant Hugh Macleod marketed for Stormhoek, a small South African wine company, through his Gaping Void site by sending out free bottles of wine to 100 legitimate bloggers from around the UK, Irish Republic, and France. During his campaign, sales of cases doubled. Stormhoek then moved to sponsor what they called “geek dinners,” dinner parties for bloggers in which the company provided free wine. Stormhoek is launching in the US and plans to host “100 geek dinners in 100 days,” beginning May 1. With the use of the bloggers, Macleod has turned Stormhoek into a global micro-brand. Read the full story here. Now if only we can get some of that wine headed our way…
